Individual Therapy

Psychotherapy can be short-term, focused on a solution to a current situation, or difficult emotions that get in the way of daily life.  It can also be a longer-term, deeper process through which together we discover and address barriers to greater self-acceptance and meaning in life. If you are suffering from anxiety, or you find yourself at times feeling angry, sad, hopeless, without energy, or other feelings you wish could change, I provide a place to begin to explore and work through these feelings.

Together, we attend not only to challenging aspects of daily life, but also to facets of ourselves that we may not yet be aware of, but that hold strong influence.  Understanding these unconscious features, perhaps a part of ourselves that has been overlooked, which can affect our emotions, symptoms, and behavior, can lead to a new self-acceptance and meaning in life.

Couples Therapy

We bring to our relationships within couples, all our previous experiences in life.  I offer an environment of safety and acceptance in which deeper understandings of each other and new ways of relating and communicating, can lead to a more satisfying and joyful relationship. As each member of the couple begins to become aware of  their own and their partner’s underlying needs and unique emotional complexity, together we are able to address unhelpful patterns of relating, and barriers to intimacy.

I try to support members of the couple as they learn new ways to listen and be heard, and skills to facilitate better ongoing communication.  My approach is informed by various theorists and practitioners, and I utilize my experience and knowledge in creating the therapeutic space for each couple to discover their own values and unique path of fulfillment in relationship.

About Depth Psychotherapy

Depth psychotherapy takes into account the aspects of ourselves that are unconscious, as well as those about which we are aware.  It recognizes that in human suffering there are spiritual, imaginal, mysterious dimensions that are not measurable, but nonetheless important in the life of the individual.   Depth psychology recognizes that bringing aspects of the psyche that are unconscious into consciousness where they can be addressed can bring about an increased sense of wholeness and peace in day-to-day life.

Unconscious aspects may appear in dreams, in metaphors, images, even in symptoms; or, they may appear as we talk during a therapy session.  In the relationship with the therapist, through trust and the therapist’s active presence, new learnings can take place, relieving symptoms of suffering and allowing the potential for growth to emerge.
